This instrument is unusual, but I can foresee several uses for it.
First of all, this is basically a factory-made hybrid of a short-scale classical guitar and a tenor ukulele. The overall size and short scale length will appeal to smaller players, especially kids or adults who are physically challenged holding even a small guitar.
Condition wise, it’s in top shape. I’ve done a mild setup to lower the action and that, along with the nylon strings, makes it extremely easy to play. All the notes play clear and true all the way up the neck. The sound is surprisingly robust for such a little instrument.
The tuning is A-through-A, so it basically sounds and is played like a standard guitar with a capo on the fifth fret. It can take either dedicated guitalele strigs or standard classical guitar nylon strings. Either one works fine.
It would be great tool for starting out a child on guitar since the chord shapes are the same. Once they’re big enough for a guitar, only the chord names have to be re-learned….everything else is the same.
I know of a couple of ukulele groups that I’d like to play along with but I have never learned how to finger a uke. No problem this would fit right in, sound wise, but I can play it with my usual guitar fingerings.
The outfit comes with the original Yamaha end-opening gig bag with handle.
