Folks.. my friend inquired about a roof for her home which is TV advertised at $4000. She asked what it included and told them what her expectations were... Mainly:
Does it include removal of all debris, choice of color, drip edge, Ice and Water shield, etc. She also stated that she wanted a PERMIT obtained whether required or not, and as such, would result in a roof and Materials inspection to evaluate APPROVED materials. In addition, she requested a Certificate of Insurance to make sure that liability/workers comp insurance was in effect the day(s) of roof replacement.
NOTE:
(As a side note to protect the homeowner, the homeowner should obtain an insurance company phone number on their own, NOT one offered by the contractor, and Not a number of a carrier's agent, to see if insurance is in effect the day of re-roofing!
Should an injury occur or property damage happen and the roofing company has no insurance in effect, YOU ARE LIABLE!
Anyway, they denied interest in a very easy reroofing.
That, to intelligent folks, would tend to indicate a possibility of improper nails, roofing application, shortcuts, and maybe questionable workmen.
Use caution when selecting a roofer. In her opinion, a non-compliance of simple and appropriate requests by the homeowner is a RED FLAG...RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THOSE WHO WILL NOT COMPLY.
