This full size dreadnought Yamaha is practically indistinguishable from a brand new guitar in a music store. It is a pure acoustic with no cutouts for electronic equipment.
Yamaha outdid themselves when it comes to the workmanship[ and appointments on this dread. With a solid spruce top and laminated rosewood back and sides, it is adorned with high end trim including a bound rosewood peghead veneer with mother-of-pearl emblems, The rosewood fingerboard and bridge were freshly oiled. The top features zebra bindings with ivoroid bindings on the back. The rosette is trimmed in m.o.p. as well.
The finish is high gloss and, like the rest of the guitar, it is flawless.
This guitar received a thorough pro setup including a new unbleached bone saddle and D’Addario strings (phosphor bronze 12s). The mahogany neck is dead straight, and the frets show no wear whatsoever. All notes play clean and true all the way up, with no buzzes, fretting out, “wolf notes” anywhere. Intonation is optimal for a guitar of this type. The action is set as low as practical for an acoustic.
The sound is wonderful for a guitar in this price range…full and rich, with strong bass notes and clear, bright trebles.
The original Yamaha sealed tuners work perfectly and the guitar holds its tune very well.
The outfit includes sturdy but cosmetically worn $60 Gator soft case. Functionality is perfect but there is some light “pilling” on the fabric.
