I am selling "Soul Rebel," my mint, fully-restored 1995 Chaparral 2550 SX, because my wife and I bought a large sailboat that we are now restoring.
The boat has been owned, improved, and cared for by a professional marine mechanic, now surveyor, for the past 6 years. She is in mint condition and is near flawless—the OEM vinyl for instance, looks and feels like new. She is structurally sound with no soft spots or rot—built with Greenwood XL pressure treated marine plywood, that was advertised as rot/delamination resistant.
Highlights:
- Mercruiser marinized GM 7.4L/454 big block with 4 barrel carburetor and Bravo III outdrive (26 pitch props, 2.0 upper ratio)
- 80 gallon fuel capacity (aluminum tank)
- ~52 GPS top end—35-38 MPH GPS cruise speed
- Simrek drive shower (installed 2020)
- Electric trim tabs (installed 2021) with keypad position indicators
- Pro Mariner 20 Amp dual bank battery charger (installed 2022)
- Dual AGM deep cycle batteries with switch (one new 2021, one new 2025)
- Fiberglass floor and deck locker; OEM snap-in carpet (in good shape)
- Fiberglass engine box
- 1500 GPH bilge pump with float switch
- Bimini top (OEM with stainless frame)
Full isinglass enclosure (OEM—in great shape)
- Cockpit snap cover (repaired in 2021)
- Full mooring cover (new in 2024)
Everything works and the boat has been fully winterized for the offseason, including an oil and filter change (OEM filter, Mobil 1 15W-50 Full Synthetic oil), drain and fill (of the engine block and manifolds) with propylene glycol antifreeze, fuel-stabilization, engine fogging, and gear oil change. I have also serviced the raw water pump with a new impeller, plastic housing, and wear plate—replete with a service of the dual-function fuel/sea water pump by draining and filling its oil as well.
Much maintenance was completed during the 2025 season and the boat made a number of trips, including a Lake Michigan crossing to Beaver Island. The boat comes with a tandem-axle aluminum bunk trailer by Tow Master (1996). The trailer has had all of its tires and wheel bearings replaced since I’ve owned it (2022). Numerous other repairs have been carried out to the trailer, including the replacement of the v-guide on which the boat’s keel rests.
In all, there is way too much to list: this boat has been my pride and joy, but the time has come to move onto a new adventure. A non-exhaustive list of service records can be provided upon request.
