A rare find! Fully functioning four seat bank of hardwood oak theater seats circa 1920s. Four joined, individually folding seats with a beautiful stained finish and patina from age and use. A great eye-catching addition to a foyer entrance, mudroom, home theater, etc.
This is an original wooden theater seating bank consisting of four connected folding seats mounted to a shared frame. The seats and frame are foldable to make repositioning easy or to create additional space. Each seat features slatted wood backs and seat pans that pivot smoothly, designed to fold up when not in use and return easily for seating. The seats are joined by a continuous support rail and splayed legs, creating a stable, freestanding row intended for an early 20th century cinema, vaudeville house, or small auditorium. As a complete bank rather than individual seats, the piece provides a strong design presence wherever it is displayed.
As motion picture houses and live theaters expanded rapidly in the early 20th century, seating was commonly installed in linked banks like this to simplify installation and reconfiguration for different productions. The fold-up seat design allowed for high volume exit capabilities between performances.
All seats are solid and usable, with smooth folding action throughout. Patina and surface wear are present across the wood, but there is no severe cracking, splitting, or structural damage observed. Except for a short shallow crack at the base of one leg, the piece is in excellent condition. Please refer to the attached photos.
